Web Author Responsibilities

  • Adhere to the Digital Policies outlined in the University of Cincinnati’s Digital Governance Policies
  • Maintain site that is up-to-date, professional and useful
    • fix/remove broken links;
    • remove old or insignificant content;
    • consistently check for spelling and grammatical errors;
    • maintain information architecture and navigational structure that is easy for users to understand and use
  • Respect copyright laws
  • Report issues with content management system or live website in a timely manner
  • A full-time University of Cincinnati staff member must be the primary manager of each University of Cincinnati website (students or contractors may serve as editors, but should not be solely responsible for the management of a site)
  • Maintain a strong understanding of accessibility requirements for the web
  • All requests for the development of web applications (ex: forms, registration system, etc.) must be approved by the university’s Digital Communications Team
  • Conduct regular audits of site content and information architecture to ensure content is relevant and site is easy to navigate
  • Maintain levels of training according to policies
  • Link to, or use a reference component for content that is maintained by another department (EX: Admissions Office should not maintain their own content with Housing information / Physics Department should not maintain information about tuition / etc.)
    • Coordinate with other internal departments/CMS users to eliminate redundant or confusing navigation and information
    • Do not recreate information that is maintained by another department
      • Provide a link or use the reference component to display desired content from another department (ex: tuition rates, housing details, etc.)
