Coeus Grants Management

Coeus: Documentation

Coeus is an Electronic Research Administration system used by UC for grant administration. It has combined all east campus and west campus grants into one central UC database administered by UCit.

UC acquired Coeus from MIT, where it was built and developed in the mid-to-late nineties. Created to assist the research community in proposal development and pre- and post-award management, the purpose of the system is to standardize, and increase the efficiency of award acquisition and administration for all participants contributing to the research enterprise. With the introduction of its comprehensive proposal development module, Coeus was one of the first cradle-to-grave award management systems in the nation. The software makes it possible to prepare proposals, route them to obtain internal approvals, and submit them to sponsors electronically. The robust award module stores detailed information on awards, reporting requirements, terms and conditions, as well as the required approvals for the award. Complementary modules such as IRB, Person, Subcontract, Negotiation, Report Tracking and Conflict of Interest may be implemented for other important tasks in the research administration cycle.

Fiscal year 2007 marked the kick off to using Coeus here at UC. Our Sponsored Research Services department began to use a Coeus implementation straight out of the box, implementing only a few modules. As we continue to streamline the grant administration process, Coeus will take on a bigger and bigger role throughout the university.
