Employees separating from the University are entitled to receive a lump sum payment of all unused vacation time. Some separation reasons are retirement, death, or taking another position outside of the University. The appointing department submits the individual's Personnel Action Form (PAF) indicating the appointment end date.
Payroll and Employee Information Services (PEIS) will calculate the dollar value of the vacation time due the employee. This payment is normally included in the employee's final paycheck. PEIS sends the primary department a printout indicating the dollar amount paid to the individual.
All vacation payouts are expensed to a central fringe benefit account.
