The Bosch project:Stuttgart Germany

I am working at the world headquarters of the world’s largest auto part manufacturer Robert Bosch. The location is Stuttgart, Germany where the challenges you face are not only in the office but also learning a completely new culture, language and country. Every day is different and every person I meet is brand new. Allow me to describe my position as a Co-Op with Bosch. I am working in the research and development department of surface technologies. The main focus is making diamond like carbon coatings that make high pressure diesel fuel injection systems possible. The part involving electrical engineering is that the diamond like carbon coatings are made with a secret plasma deposition process. The process is secret because little research has been done on it. It is basically a new science. Outside of work Stuttgart Germany is a really clean and rich city which holds the headquarters for Bosch, Porsche and Mercedes. It is also the home to hundreds of cool discos and bars. Stuttgart is four hours away from Paris, France two hours away from Zürich, Switzerland six hours from Berlin and six hours away from Prague, Czech Republic. Not to mention that I have had the chance to fly to Ibiza Spain in a few hours and see Munich, Wurzburg, Heidelberg, Freiberg, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Mainz, Wiesbaden and Lindau all in the beautiful country of Germany. Last and most important I need to reiterate on how interesting it is to speak a new language, learn a different culture and make new friends. It helps to get a different view on America from the European's standpoint. At times it makes me appreciate how hard it really is just to be a foreigner. This makes my cool Co-Op one of the coolest!
