Summer '07...Swiss Style

This summer I co-oped for Zimmer GmbH located in Winterthur, Switzerland. Zimmer is an orthopaedic company that designs and develops implants for total knee replacements, total hip replacements, and bone fractures. I worked in Trauma Development with engineers who developed intramedullary nails, plates and screws, and their corresponding surgical instruments. I spent 12 weeks working in Europe at Zimmer and had the most incredible summer of my life. I lived in a house with 20 other co-ops from all around the world, including the US, France, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Holland, Italy, and Singapore. I had an awesome cultural experience living with people from across the globe and developed some lifelong friendships. I lived in the city-center of Winterthur, which is the downtown area where all the shops, restaurants, and entertainment is located. Some weekends I traveled around Europe and others I stayed in Winterthur and experienced some Swiss culture. In addition to traveling around Switzerland, I went to Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, Munich, Salzburg, Berlin, and northern Italy. One of the coolest things I did in Europe was canyoning in Interlaken, Switzerland. We were jumping off 30 feet high waterfalls, sliding down rock slides, and repelling! Being able to co-op abroad for a great company was an unforgettable experience for me that I would definitely recommend for other students!
