Powering the World from Atlanta

I worked in GE's Energy business as an intern in their Financial Management Program (FMP). I was given an apartment five minutes from work that had a pool, fitness center, and tennis courts...and I never saw the bill! They even paid me 3x what it costs to drive my car to Atlanta! The students I worked along side came from schools like Notre Dame, Georgetown, and Princeton to name a few, which made things pretty competitive. However, the ten of us all became very good friends and were able to experience one of our country's greatest cities together. I worked for the Sourcing Department that was in charge of purchasing the $13B annually of materials used to build the turbines and other products of GE Energy. My main project focused on re-developing a system that could efficiently track and report the productivity, inflation, and deflation on the parts being purchased. I was able to put together a next generation system that is currently being implemented in to use. Additionally, I was able to strengthen controllership through an internal audit of productivity being reported. Upon completion of my audit my recommendations were put into place to ensure accurate savings reporting. Although based in Atlanta, I was able to travel to Greenville, SC and visit the assembly site of GE Energy's humongous turbines (about two school buses side by side). The work at GE Energy was challenging and invigorating during my co-op quarter. All in all, I had an amazing time in a fantastic city meeting and living with people from all over the country. GE's Financial Management Program is a top-tier entry-level program that I will remain a part of this coming summer as I move to GE’s NBCUniversal Business.
