Cool Perks at the Esquire Penthouse

As part of my coop Spring and Autumn quarters at Campion Platt, I helped design a room in the Esquire penthouse, located up on Central Park North in NYC. Not only was it fun to work on a project that had no clients, but the perks were amazing. Firstly, it was exciting to work on something that will be so exposed to the public eye. Since Esquire is not a design magazine, this project will be shown to many outside of the design community. Our room was also part of the set for Jay Z’s new music video, Blue Magic. One of the biggest perks associated with doing this showhouse, besides the notoriety of being published, is going to the events. I got to mingle with various celebrities, such as Kyra Sedgwich, Christopher Meloni (Law and Order character Detective Stabler), Richard Belzer (Detective Munch), Christopher Noth (Detective Mike Logan and Sex and the City's "Mr. Big"), Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., and many others. I even got to shake Bill Murray's hand and dance to DJ Grandmaster Flash live!Besides the obvious perk of being surrounded by celebrities, being at all the events was really great since they were all hosted for various charities, and it felt good to be a part of that. I had the opportunity to hear about all the wonderful organizations from people who were very involved in them. I felt that the passion the speakers demonstrated was infectious and riveting, and I hope that those with more resources than me felt the same way, and were influenced to help these causes.
