NYC Skyscraper

During my latest co-op position at Tsao-McKown Architects in New York City, I worked for an extremely competitive design firm that has been well published in design magazines around the world. At this job I worked with some of the best professionals and students in the industry, and was able to be competitive with the three other student interns at this job from top design schools around the world. While at this job I was given the opportunity to work on a very high-profile skyscraper within New York City. This 50-story condo tower is in downtown Manhattan in the Financial District, just a few blocks from the World Trade Center site. The building is not only one of the tallest in the area, but it will also be one of the premeire luxury condo towers featuring a full gym, swimming pool, basketball court and movie theater. Most importantly, this building features a bright yellow facade that will forever change the infamous New York Skyline. Since the building is currently under construction, we worked on redesigning many details of the project. This enabled me to visit the site numerous times with co-workers and contractors. Not only was I able to work on and design the building in the office, but I also was able to see it in the field. It was exciting to watch the building reach toward the sky throughout the quarter and be a part of such an important project in the city. It is satisfying to know that I was part of a project that has such visibility and importance in the most famous skyline in the world. After this, I will never be able to look at an image of the city with the same eyes.
