Field Practicum |
During field practicum and internship, all students are strongly encouraged to apply for and become a duly designated "Counselor Trainee," a formal status with the Ohio CSWMFT Board. To accomplish this, you must complete a copy of the CSWMFT Board's Professional Counselor Training Supervision Agreement that you can obtain from the CSWMFT Board's website. Complete this form and submit it to the CSWMFT Board for processing. Keep a photocopy of this form for your personal records. The Counseling Program will provide the Board with a list of students currently enrolled in Field Practicum and Internships in order to validate your enrolled status.
Within 30 days of completing Field Practicum, complete a copy of the CSWMFT Board's Practicum Report Form which you can obtain from the CSWMFT Board's website. Sign it, date it, and submit it to the CSWMFT Board for processing. Keep a photocopy of this form for your personal records. |
18-CNSL-888 Master's Counseling Internship

Advanced Internship |
Within 30 days of completing all requirements for 18 credits of Master's Counseling Internship and 9 credits of Advanced Counseling Internship (or any time you change supervisors or sites), complete a copy of the CSWMFT Board's Internship Supervisor Evaluation Rating Form. Complete, sign, and date Part A, have your training supervisor complete, sign, and date Part B with notarization of the signature.. Have supervisor sign across the back of a sealed envelope and return the evaluation to you for submission to the CSWMFT Board.
Also, within 30 days of completing all requirements for 27 credits of Master's Counseling Internships, you must also complete a copy of the CSWMFT Board's Evaluation and Verification of Supervised Experience form to provide final validation for your CT status. Complete, sign, and date Part A, have your training supervisor complete, sign, and date Part B with notarization of the signature.. Have supervisor sign across the back of a sealed envelope and return the evaluation to you for submission to the CSWMFT Board. |
Graduation |
Complete all academic requirements for the UC Mental Health Masters Program (M.A. in Mental Health Counseling - 90 cr hr). This program is recognized by the State of Ohio Counselor and Social Worker Board as meeting the training requirements for licensure as a Professional Counselor. |
The CSWMFT Board PCLE |
Submit a written request to take the licensing examination for the State of Ohio (NCE) and attach a student copy of your transcript showing completion of the required coursework.

Applying for the PC License |
After you pass the NCE examination, send in an application for the PC license (include applicable fees).
Have the Registrar of the University of Cincinnati send official transcripts directly to the CSWMFT Board. |
Preparing to upgrade your Counseling License (PC) to a Clinical Counseling License (PCC) |
After becoming a PC, submit a letter to the Board indicating that you want to upgrade your PC license to PCC. Apply to be a "PC/Clinical Resident" by registering you post PC hours with the Board. Include a letter requesting that any hours that occurred post degree and were registered and approved by the Board be counted towards the 3000 hour requirement. Experience must meet the requirements for the PCC with 50% of your time spent diagnosing and treating mental and emotional disorders in a clinical setting under a PCC. |
Apply to take the PCC Exam and Pass Successfully |
Although it is likely to be helpful to gain clinical experience prior to taking the PCC exam, you may apply to take it at any time after you have become a PC. This exam will have to be completed successfully before you become a PCC. |

Documenting Your Clinical Expertise |
Have each supervisor fill out complete a copy of the CSWMFT Board's Evaluation and Verification of Supervised Experience form. Have supervisor sign across the back of a sealed envelope and return the evaluation to you for submission to the CSWMFT Board. |
PCC Licensing |
You will be licensed with a provisional license once all of the paperwork is received by the Board. This letter along with your passing examination score report will allow you to work until you receive a letter from the board indicating that you may now call yourself a PC or PCC |
