Make sure you complete 100 clock hours of Practicum in a school setting, and be supervised by a licensed school counselor.

Master's Counseling Internship

You need to complete 600 clock hours of internship in a school setting. You need to be supervised by a licensed school counselor.

Graduation

Complete all academic requirements for the UC School Counseling Masters Program (M.Ed. In School Counseling, 72 cr hr CACREP accredited). This program is recognized by the Department of Education in Ohio state as meeting the training requirements..

Applying for the School Counselor License

1. Get application packet from the CECH Student Services Center in Edwards Hall.

2. The Center will mail packets out also. Call 556-2333.

3. Register to take Praxis Exam (you only need to take the guidance part of this national teacher exam -Test No. 20420) For additional information about Praxis, please consult the following document: Praxis Information 2008

4. When you receive your passing score via the mail

5. Mail your application, history card, check for $48.00 made out to Ohio TEC and a full copy of your Praxis II score to the Student Services Center.

6. Once you have completed course work, the certification will be mailed to your home address.

One Year of Induction

If you do not have teaching experiences nor hold a valid teacher?s license, you need one year of induction before you can obtain your school counselor license.
