Advisory Board

Nine UC professors, who were recommended by Chinese students or professors, have kindly agreed to serve as members of the Advisory Board for FASSPRC. According to the University regulations, the advisors for our organization should be a member of the faculty or staff. Some of the functions of advisors are to provide advice, model good leadership, assist with the transition of officers, serve as University liaison and resource person, share ideas for fund-raising and keeping organization focused on goals...etc.. Each professor advisor of FASSPRC may supervise/help the organization in any aspect if necessary. However, their official duties are tentatively assigned as follows:

Dr. William Wee

The followings are brief biographies about them. Some are provided directly from the professor advisors and some are short introductions made by the President of FASSPRC.

1. Prof. Lin Chen

> from 1991 to 1994. He is a member of Tau Beta Pi and Phi Kappa Phi, and a senior member of IEEE.

4. Prof. Jerry Lin

Dr. Lin got his B.S. from Zheda in 1982. He joined UC in Fall, 1991 and is currently an associate professor in Chem. Eng. Dept. He received prestigious NSF CAREER award in 1995. His research area is on materials for separation and reaction. Dr. Lin and his students have published over 50 refereed papers. His hobby includes swimming and learning piano. He is married with two daughters.

5. Dr. Lin Liu

Dr. Lin Liu is currently Assistant Professor of Geography at the University of Cincinnati. His major area of interest is Geographic Information Systems (GIS). He and his colleagues developed one of the first Chinese GIS software packages eleven years ago. He is currently the President of the Association of Chinese Professionals of GIS-Abroad (CPGIS). Before joining University of Cincinnati earlier this year, Dr. Liu worked in the University of New Orleans for two years as Assistant Professor. He obtained his Ph.D. from the Ohio State University, Masters and Bachelors from Peking University.

6. Prof. Mei Tang

Dr.Tang received her B. A. from Shanghai International Studies University and M.Ed in English Education from the University of Central Oklahoma. In 1996, she obtained her Ph.D in Counselor Education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Dr. Tang has rich experience in counseling, teaching, and research on Asian Americans' career choices. Currently, she is the Assistant Professor at the Division of Human Services, University of Cincinnati.

7. Prof. Susanna Tong

Dr. Susanna Tong obtained her PhD in Applied Ecology from the Departments of Geography and Botany, Sheffield University, United Kingdom. She is an Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in Geography, as well as the Director of Asian Studies. Her research interests include environmental geography, biogeography, quantitative ecology, soil geography and water resources management. Her regional specialities are China, East Asia, Midwest US, England and Spain.

8. Prof. William Wee

"I am currently a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Computer Science. I am an oversea Chinese born and raised in the Philippines. I came to US in 1963 and obtained my PhD in EE in 1967. I worked in the industry for 4 years and joined UC in 1971. I was promoted to a Full Professor in 1977. I have been with UC for over 25 years. I visited China 4 times and will be visiting it again the coming summer.----W. Wee" Dr. Wee is the Director of the Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision Laboratory. He is a senior member of the IEEE, Eta Kappa Nu and Sigma Xi.

9. Prof. Fu-Cun Zhang

Dr. Zhang was born in Zhejiang, China. He received his B.S.(Physics) from Fudan University in 1968 and obtained his Ph.D(physics) from Virginia Polytechnique Institute and State University, USA. As a Guest Professor, he has visited the Univ. of Maryland, Argonne National Lab., Theoretische Physik/ETH/Zurich, Yukawa Institute/Kyoto University/Japan, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology/Hong Kong, National Tsinghua Univ./Taiwan, and ETH-Zurich/Switzerland since 1989. From 1987 to 1996, he had been invited to give about 46 lecture and Seminars on High-Tc Superconductivity, Quantum Hall Effect, and other topics in physics at various prestigious institutions all over the world such as Max-Plank Institute/Stuttgart/Germany, AT&T Bell Lab/Murray Hill/NJ/USA , ICTP/Trieste/Italy, Tokyo University, MIT, Princeton University, Rome University/Italy, ETH-Zurich/Switzerland...etc.. Dr.Zhang has published 68 journal papers on physics. His paper entitled "Effective Hamiltonian for the superconducting Cu-oxides" published in Physical Review (B37, 3759,1988 with T.M. Rice) was twice listed among the top ten most cited scientific papers in physics. The total number of citations for that paper since 1988 has exceeded 1,000. He is married and currently an associate professor at the Dept. of Physics, University of Cincinnati. He is also the recipient of USA National Science Foundation Award(1989-1992).
