Let us work together to build a better Chinese community and wear
better hair.
The haircut coordinator is Jing Sun. If you have any questions or want to be a volunteer, please contact with Jing Sun<jingsun70@usa.net> for any information.

The haircut activity is one of the activities organized by CSSA. The aims of the
activity are to enhance the friendship among the members, enrich the campus life and
provide convenience to our members. All the barbers are
volunteers, but in order to keep the clippers and other tools in good
shape, we suggest donation ( $2 ). Do not take it for granted
that volunteers will earn money for their work. The money collected is a donation to
CSSA, not a payment. So leaving money or not is your freedom. The donation was and will be
only used for the maintenance of haircut equipment and other CSSA activities. A well
descriptive financial record is always kept for query.
Most of our Chinese students cannot accept the fact that we need to pay the equivalent oF 100RMB yuan for a haircut, since it is more than 20 times of the price we used to pay. You will find that even Americans think the price is too high.
Therefore, some of us cut hair for each other (This is a good alternative), some of us have our wives to cut hair for us ( this is even better only if our wives can do it, but .....), some of us prolong the intervals between visits to the barber's, some of us simply cut hair ourselves, and some of us ...... This is why we often see some Chinese students wear long hair, and some wear "wife-cut" hair.
Ever since the first Chinese students came to UC, we Chinese students began to cut hair
for each other. In 1996, the organized haircut activities were proposed and held several
times on a small scale. Mr. Zuoliang Cao was the "barber". In February 1997, we
began to have the weekly haircut activities. Mr. Yan Guangrong, the coordinator of
1996-1997, has done a great contribution to sustaining haircut activity and passing on his
skill. Mr. Liang Jun and Jian Guowei were the coordinators of 1997-1998. It should be
mentioned here that Mr. Li xingguo, the CSSA president of 1997-1998, participated almost
all haircut activities during 1997-1998 period.
The haircut activities are basically that we cut hair for each other at the same time
and place. In order to make the haircut more enjoyable and the activities long lasting,
your participation is very much in need. We hope more and more friends join the actions of
both cutting and being cut. It will save time and also you will gain experience. Sometime volunteers have to work until 6PM, due to less participation of
others. Those who currently cut hair for others at home please
join us. It is more fun if more people cut hair together. We can learn from each other. We
can also meet new people all the time; Those who need a haircut please come.
The volunteers will be glad to help you. Besides, you are also encouraged to learn
haircutting, so, later on you can help some one else. It is also fun to cut hair;
Those
who want to cut hair for their husbands/sons but cannot do a good job now please join us
too. The experienced volunteers will teach you some tricks on haircutting and do the
"quality control", so you have nothing to worry about; Those who
need a hairstyling (ladies) are also welcome as long as you dare to take the risk, since
most of the volunteers do not have much experience in hairstyling.
Currently, Mr. Jing Sun is the coordinator of the haircut activities. Since Nov. 1998,
volunteers who have taken part in haircut activities includes:
Zhou Ming, Li Xingguo, Jian Guowei, Liang Jun, Cui Dapeng, Ren haibei, Tian
feng, Sun
Yin, Lu Sibin, Sun Heping, Si Mei, Wang Zhuo, Luo Shijian, Yang Donghui,
Ying Sun etc.
Active members are Jing Sun..
Upon availability, all CSSA members are eligible to get haircut services free of charge. Besides, if you are satisfied with the haircut and want to do something good in return, you can join the "haircut volunteers" or help others in other activities organized by CSSA.
Any ideas and suggestions are more than welcome. Or, if you have any questions, please
