Multidisciplinary Studies

  What is Multidisciplinary Studies?

The multidisciplinary studies program is designed for students whose educational needs cannot be met by any of the programs offered at Raymond Walters College (RWC), but who would benefit from courses offered.

Multidisciplinary studies enables students to design a curriculum to meet their particular interests.  It is not intended to be a means of circumventing requirements of the college or of a department.

In order to be admitted to the program, you must submit a written proposal to the multidisciplinary studies advisor and be formally accepted into the program (see details below).

Students completing the program receive an associate of arts degree.

  Success Factors

The successful candidate for this degree is highly motivated and able to work independently.

  Career Possibilities

The RWC multidisciplinary studies program consists of a transfer-oriented curriculum, not directed toward the goal of a specific career. Students who pursue multidisciplinary studies must devise programs to meet individual needs, but must also be aware that employment opportunities depend upon the student's willingness to match educational and career goals.

It is possible to design a program on the associate degree level which would lead to employment. It is anticipated, however, that most students enrolled in multidisciplinary studies plan to continue study toward bachelor's degrees.

  Majoring in Multidisciplinary Studies

The multidisciplinary studies program curriculum is individually designed by the student seeking admittance, in consultation with the multidisciplinary studies advisor.

  Curriculum

This curriculum information is intended as a general information guide for students considering enrollment in this program. These online tools are designed to assist you, but are not a substitute for planning with an academic or faculty advisor.

If you are currently confirmed or enrolled, you can check your degree requirements online. If you are considering transferring to this major from another school use the Course Applicability System (CAS) to see how credits you have earned will apply to this major at UC. For course descriptions by college, click here. The multidisciplinary studies program curriculum must include one year of English Composition (101, 102, 103/289), 24 credits as designed by the candidate and approved by the Multidisciplinary Studies Committee, and one year of study following acceptance into the program.

  UC Advantages and Special Opportunities

Students unable to have their educational needs met by any of the other programs offered at RWC may propose their own curriculum.

The multidisciplinary studies program can be completed entirely through evening study.

  Special Programs

Small classes and personal attention make Raymond Walters College an excellent choice for beginning your education. You will acquire a broad range of knowledge which will provide a firm foundation for future learning.

RWC is conveniently located in suburban Blue Ash and offers a variety of day, evening and weekend classes, as well as distance learning courses.

  Admission Requirements

All students entering a degree program must take the RWC placement test prior to registering for classes.  This test is given on the RWC campus.

In order to be admitted to the multidisciplinary studies program, you must submit a written proposal and be formally accepted by the sponsoring department.  Candidates are encouraged to contact the multidisciplinary studies advisor prior to completing the written proposal.

The proposal should:

  1.  state the rationale for entering the program;
  2.  list all courses taken to date by department, with credit hours, course numbers and grades; and
  3.  list all courses yet to be taken at RWC for each quarter proposed, by department, with credit hours and course numbers.

When submitting a proposal, the following restrictions should be noted:

  • You  must have previously earned a minimum of 12 credit hours and must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0.
  • The program must include one year of English composition (101, 102 and 103/289).
  • Once admitted to the program, you must complete a minimum of 24 credit hours at Raymond Walters College, and you must be in residence to receive the degree.
  • You  must be accepted into the program at least one academic year prior to your expected date of graduation (this requirement cannot be waived).
