What is Business Management Technology: Decision Sciences?
The decision science option of the associate degree program in business management technology provides students with a foundation in business and economics, a substantial background in statistics, and an intensive training in the use of current computer hardware and software. It is designed according to current demands of employers in the business and economic fields, who expect new graduates to have sufficient mathematical and statistical background to analyze economic data, investigate business trends over the time and model economic phenomena.
The program is offered in cooperation with the Mathematics, Physics & Computer Science Department.
Success Factors
Students who are successful in this area have a solid foundation in business and economics, possess strong analytic skills and are able to communicate effectively orally and in writing. They also are highly skilled in the use of business and statistics software applications.
Career Possibilities
Graduates of this major either enter the workplace in a business-related career field or pursue further education in the areas of business and/or statistics. Students who choose business as a career will be qualified for entry-level positions in the areas of accounting, economics, marketing research and financial analysis. Students who decide to pursue further education in a statistics-related field will be prepared to do so. The broad field of statistics provides for a wide variety of career opportunities. Statisticians are called upon to collect, describe and analyze quantitative information in order to draw conclusions about specific problems in fields such as business, health and medicine, environment and physical sciences.
Majoring in Business Management Technology: Decision Sciences
The main goal of the major is to provide students with a broad liberal arts experience and a solid background in business and statistics. The decision science curriculum includes seven general education courses, ten courses in business and economics, and eight courses in statistics and decision science.
Full-time students can complete the program in two years.

Completion of a career-oriented associate degree program at Raymond Walters College (RWC) prepares you for direct entry into the workforce. Classes are small, just 25-30 students, providing an atmosphere for acquiring skills quickly and personally.
The faculty of the Business Department at Raymond Walters College is well-qualified academically, and most of the faculty have considerable business experience. This combination means you will learn from professors who illustrate course principles and content with practical examples.
The business management technology program in decision science can be completed entirely through evening study.
Admission Requirements
You may enroll in Raymond Walters College if you graduated from an accredited high school or preparatory school, or have a GED certificate (minimum composite score of 45). The college's rolling admissions policy allows you to start any quarter: fall, winter, spring or summer.
High school students who are considering RWC should take either the SAT or ACT college entrance examination for use in guidance and counseling. All students entering a degree program must also take the college's placement test prior to registering for classes. This test is given on the RWC campus.
The RWC Admissions Office provides an application for admission and all the information you'll need to enroll in the college.
Transferring to UC Requirements
Transferring to UC Raymond Walters College
Transfer applications are individually reviewed, and acceptance is based on receipt of application materials, as well as official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended. An official evaluation of transfer credit from other colleges will be processed after the student’s file is complete.
Credits are accepted from any institution currently accredited by any of the six regional accrediting agencies. Enrollment Services shall have discretionary authority to accept credits from other institutions in consultation with program directors or department chairpersons. Application of transfer credit to the student's program is at the discretion of the appropriate program director or department chairperson.
Changing Majors within UC Requirements
Students changing majors from other programs or colleges within UC will be considered based on the same criteria as outside transfers.
International Student Requirements
Students who did not graduate from a high school in the United States of America must take an ability-to-benefit test and achieve the minimum specified score to be eligible for admission to a degree or certificate program at Raymond Walters College. The scores will be used for placement in English courses and general advising for all courses.
Graduation Requirements
To qualify for a degree, you must fulfill the requirements of the program from which you expect to graduate and must have at least a 2.0 cumulative RWC grade point average. It is your responsibility to take the courses necessary for graduation. After freshman requirements have been completed for RWC, no more than nine sophomore credits should be taken in another college. Those credits and courses must have the approval of the academic adviser before they are taken. A student who changes programs or extends work beyond a two-year period must meet the published requirements of the program in the year of expected graduation. Transfer students must take at least one-half of the required course work in a selected program at RWC to qualify for graduation.
You must complete an application for degree, usually the quarter before you expect to graduate. You should see your advisor for specific information well in advance of your final quarter.
