Medical Assisting Services
What is Medical Assisting Services?
The medical assisting services program is designed to prepare students for a career as a health professional. In order to meet the program objectives, the curriculum provides a rigorous foundation in office administration and medical courses. Administrative courses include study in medical office procedures, microcomputers, machine transcription and oral and written communication. Medical study includes anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, clinical techniques, laboratory procedures and assisting procedures for various types of medical settings and practices.
Success Factors
The program curriculum stresses professionalism, dependability, flexibility, medical ethics, communication and human relations skills.
Career Possibilities
Graduates will have completed 320 hours of hands-on clinical practice in a medical setting under the direct supervision of a physician and are qualified to assist physicians in a private office, clinic or other health care facility. Medical assistants are skilled in both administrative and clinical functions, providing considerable flexibility to the physician's office.
Majoring in Medical Assisting Services
Graduates of the medical assisting services program will have the formal training required to take the certification examination of the American Association of Medical Assistants. Most employers in the health care environment recommend that medical assistants have the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential.
The University of Cincinnati Raymond Walters College associate degree in medical assisting program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), www.caahep.org, upon recommendation of the Curriculum Review Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants Endowment (AAMAE).
