English Composition Placement

College of Applied Science students should take the Online English Essay for their English placement. The Online English Essay will be offered several times during the spring and early summer preceding Orientation. Students must register online. See Online English Placement for information on how to register.

English Placement will also be offered during the summer orientation sessions for those who could not complete their placement online. Writing placement consists of a 60-minute timed reading and writing task. Students will be asked to read a short article, write a summary of the reading, and then write an essay responding to a specific prompt about the reading. Students will finally write a reflective paragraph about their essays.

All students who plan to take the English placement tests during summer orientation sessions will take their tests on the morning of their first day of orientation. Placement testing will be held from approximately 9:00 AM-10:00 PM. Students will be assigned a location for their placement test when they check in for orientation.
