UC Clermont College
Entry-Point Composition Courses

English Placement Assessment will determine which entry-point course is right for each student. Students can place into one of four courses, which will become their first English course.

34ENGL097 Preparatory Reading & Writing II is a 6-hour reading and writing course at the intermediate level.

34ENGL099 Preparatory Composition offers instruction in the basic literacy skills generally required of college writers. This is a 3 credit-hour course that blends reading and writing instruction.

34ENGL101 English Composition I is the first quarter course of the first-year composition sequence (English 101-102-103) at all University of Cincinnati colleges. It emphasizes critical reading and writing.

34ENGL111 Advanced English Composition I is the advanced equivalent of English 101.

English Placement Establishes Pre-Requisites
Once students have their placement, they are required to take and successfully pass that course before moving to the next course in the sequence. Students must take the courses in order of the sequence.

Program Requirements:
The English Composition sequence, English 101-102-103, is required for all degrees at UC Clermont. Only after students have successfully completed English 101 may they move to English 102. Successful completion of English 102 is required before students can take English 103.

Transfer Students:
Students who have successfully completed the equivalent of English 101, 102, 103 at another university may receive transfer credit. Students should see their advisor or contact the Student Development Office in Student Services Building, Room 100.
