UC Clermont College
English Composition Placement

To write the essay online at one of the times it is offered this spring and summer, students must register online. See Online English Placement. (Please note: students who write the essay online will still need to come to campus for the other parts of the placement process.)

On-campus English Placement will consist of a timed reading and writing task. Students will be asked to read a short article, write a summary, write an essay responding to a specific prompt, and write a reflective paragraph about their essay.

Students may schedule an appointment to take the Placement Assessment by phoning the Enrollment Services Appointment Desk at (513) 732-5319 or e-mailing them at clc.advising@uc.edu. There are both day and early evening sessions of the Placement Assessment. Students should allow three and a half to four hours to complete the Placement Assessment. (Please note: Students will also do their math placement during these sessions.)

Procedures for the Placement Assessment

  1. Students should contact the Enrollment Services Appointment Desk to set up an appointment. When sending an e-mail, students should include name, Social Security Number, daytime phone number, desired major, and whether or not the student has previous college course work.

  2. On the testing day, students should arrive at 15 minutes before the testing begins in order to give them time to find the room and get checked in. Students should bring a #2 pencil, Social Security Number, and a photo ID. All other testing materials will be provided. Calculators are not permitted. Please note: Scheduled seats may be given to stand-by students if the student with the appointment has not checked in at least 5 minutes before the starting time.

  3. Students who have a disability and need special assistance in completing the Placement Assessment should contact Jenn Radt at (513) 732-5327. In accordance with Federal Law, students will need to provide verification of the disability.

  4. In consideration of others, students should notify the Enrollment Services Appointment Desk as much ahead of time as possible if the students are unable to attend at their scheduled time.
