Adam Kleshinski Major Mentor
As a Major Mentor for the center, Adam Kleshinski helps students make a final decision about what path to take during their college careers. He says his own experience at the university uniquely qualifies him to speak to others. Kleshinski spent three years as an industrial design major before
he changed majors to environmental science. He feels that if the mentoring program had been in place when he enrolled, he would have never wasted time in the wrong major.
If I would have had the time to talk to some students in industrial design or some students in engineering it would have really allowed me to find out about the program, he said. Instead, picking a major for me was like playing pin the tail on the donkey.
After the center opened, Kleshinski volunteered and became the first mentor. He said he recently helped a student who was going back and forth about switching from mechanical engineering to industrial design.
Major mentoring allows students who have an interest in a certain discipline to talk to juniors and seniors currently enrolled in that major. The program allows them to discuss workloads and demands of their chosen discipline.
Kleshinski endorses the program to anyone who may be undecided or feel uncertain about their chosen major. The mentoring program is a quick way for students to meet people in a field of study, he said. Its important, because making the wrong decision can translate into
a waste of time and a waste of money.
