Purpose

The awarding of the title of Distinguished Research Professor to a faculty member represents the highest level of recognition for achievements and contributions in research at the University of Cincinnati.
 

Nomination and Selection Process

• Nominations come from the academic college by a process recommended by the Dean and approved by the Provost. Colleges may nominate no more than two individuals each year.
• With the approval of the Dean, one nominee from the previous year can be nominated again and the required three external letters of recommendation do not have to be re-requested.
• Nominations must be submitted to the Interim Vice President for Research William S. Ball at ML 0663 by the Dean no later than Dec. 7, 2012.
• The Vice President for Research will appoint a committee with faculty representatives from both campuses and will also include a graduate-student member. This committee will submit its recommendation to the Provost by Jan. 9, 2013.
• The Provost will make recommendations to the President by Jan. 23, 2013.
• Appointments will be announced at a meeting of the Board of Trustees and also be recognized at the Faculty Awards Recognition Celebration on April 17, 2013.
   

Nomination Materials

Nominating material must include:

• Letter of Nomination from the Dean
• This letter must document that the nominee has national and international stature as a scholar, scientist, or artist. Documentation should include prestigious national and international recognition as a scholar, scientist, or artist; for example, membership in a national or international academy. The nominee must have at least a seven-year commitment to teaching graduate or undergraduate students at this or other universities.

Supporting Materials

Supporting materials include:

• A complete academic vita for the nominee
• Reprints of two scholarly publications which have appeared in peer-reviewed journals
• Letter of recommendation from the appropriate Department Chair
• Letters of evaluation by three scholars who have international standing in the nominee’s academic area and who have had no affiliation current or past with the University of Cincinnati. The Dean is responsible for requesting the external letters.
