Process for Nominating and Approving Distinguished Research Professorships

Purpose

The awarding of the title of Distinguished Research Professor to a faculty member represents the highest level of recognition for achievements and contributions in research at the University of Cincinnati.

Nomination and Selection Process

  • Nominations come from the academic college by a process recommended by the Dean and approved by the appropriate Provost. Colleges may nominate no more than two individuals each year.

  • With the approval of the Dean, one nominee from the previous year can be nominated again and the required three external letters of recommendation do not have to be re-requested.

  • Nominations must be submitted to the Vice President for Research by the Dean no later than February 1, 2008.

  • The Vice President for Research will appoint a committee with faculty representatives from both campuses and will also include a graduate-student member. This committee will submit its recommendation to the two Provosts by February 15, 2008.

  • The two Provosts will make recommendations to the President by March 1, 2008.

  • Appointments will be announced at a meeting of the Board of Trustees and also be recognized at the Faculty Awards Recognition Celebration in May 2008.

Nominating material must include:

  • Letter of Nomination from the Dean

  • This letter must document that the nominee has national and international stature as a scholar, scientist, or artist. The nominee must have at least a seven-year commitment to teaching graduate or undergraduate students at this or other universities.
