Entrepreneurial Faculty Achievement Awards

Entrepreneurial achievement is a very important part of university activity.
It contributes to the vitality, prestige and economic growth of the university
and has been shown to have a significant impact on economic growth in
regions across the country. Recognizing the importance of entrepreneurial activity
to the University of Cincinnati, as well as our region and state, two awards have been
created for exceptional faculty achievement in promoting and maximizing the commercial
potential and human benefits of university intellectual property and/or research as well
as business development activities that support the expansion of markets, delivery
mechanisms, and revenue streams for existing or new academic programs.
Awards:
The two categories in which awards will be given are:
1. Established Entrepreneur Award
For faculty with a record of five or more years of successful entrepreneurial ventures,
based upon University research and/or intellectual property or business development
activities that support the expansion of markets, delivery mechanisms, and revenue
streams for existing or new academic programs.
2. Emerging Entrepreneur Award
For faculty who have successfully launched a new venture during the past 5 years,
based on University research and/or intellectual property, or business development
activities that support the expansion of markets, delivery mechanisms, and
revenue streams for existing or new academic programs.
Selection Criteria:
Criteria for selection will include the following:
Established Entrepreneur Award
Documented history of establishing multiple business ventures,
or one or more path-breaking ventures that have achieved major
financial success in national or international markets or at UC Ventures based
upon intellectual property, research, or academic business development
opportunity that had a substantial university connection at the time of
development Level of contribution as measured by sustained royalty/licensing/program
revenue Five or more year record of successful commercialization of the products of
research Demonstrated marketplace impact
Emerging Entrepreneur Award
Successful launch of a new commercial technology venture or license within the last five years
Ventures based upon intellectual property, research, or academic business development opportunity that had a substantial university connection at the time of development
Documented potential for market impact
Demonstrated marketplace advancement as measured by developmental milestones
Level of contribution measured through potential revenue to the university
as determined by the professional market analysis
Application Requirements and Submission:
All applications must be submitted electronically on the form provided.

Selection Process:
The Selection Committee will be comprised of previous winners of the award.
Information provided in the application should include non-confidential
information regarding how the intellectual property licensing/assignment
by UC and/or its affiliates led to enhanced product development or service.
Verification of information will be requested if nominee is selected as
a finalist for the award.
Nomination Deadline:
Nominations are being solicited for these awards at this time. Nominations
deadline is February 1, 2008.. Self-nominations as well as nominations by
colleagues are welcome.
Notification of Awards:
Awardees will be notified of selection by March 1, 2008.
Presentation of Awards:
The awards will be presented on May 13, 2008 at the Faculty Awards Celebration. Award recipients will also be honored at the Annual Center for Entrepreneurship Education and Research Banquet in mid May.
