
The TIAA-CREF Faculty Award for Distinguished Public Service
Eligibility
Any faculty member who has provided extraordinary service to the community, whether through the application of professional expertise to the solution of public questions or by exemplary participation in an institutional public program at UC, may be nominated. The selection committee generally favors service activities that are unpaid and are not considered as part of normal service expectations for faculty. Both full-time and part-time faculty members are eligible.
Selection Process
Nominations must be sent electronically to The Office of the President by Februrary 2, 2007, and must contain a nomination letter of no more than two pages from the nominee’s dean or department head, a letter from the public service entity for which the nominee provides service, and the nominee’s CV. The President will appoint a three-person committee comprised of previous winners of the former Oscar Schmidt Public Service Award to review applications and recommend three finalists to her by March 1, 2007. The President, in consultation with a designated representative from TIAA-CREF will make the final selection from among the three finalists.
Award Ceremony
The award will be announced at the Faculty Awards Recognition Celebration on May 1, 2007 in the Great Hall, Tangeman University Center. This ceremony is jointly sponsored by the Faculty Senate and the President’s Office. A reception will follow the ceremony.
