Why a Foundation?
University foundations raise, receive, record and disburse gifts and grants from private (non-government) sources. The UC Foundation assures donors that their gifts are being used in accord with their intentions.
Does the Foundation determine the use of gift funds?
The Foundation does not determine the use of gift funds. Funds raised are allocated according to restrictions established by donors. If gifts are made without donor restrictions, allocation is determined by the University.
UC is a state university, why does it need private support?
State and federal appropriations constitute only a portion of the university's income. The rest comes from internal sources like tuition and fees, and gifts from alumni and friends. State support of universities continues to decline, so private support is critical to UC’s growth.
Can I choose the college or program that receives my gift?
Your gift can benefit a specific UC program, department or college. You may also make a gift without a designation. Undesignated gifts allow UC to use the gift to meet urgent campus needs.
How can I find out more about the needs of a specific college or school?
Funding opportunities for UC Colleges and Schools are found in the Giving Initiatives section of this site. There you will find testimonials from those who have benefited from donations to UC. You can even give online to the area(s) you wish to support!
Are there benefits to my giving?
Absolutely. You are helping educate the world's future leaders, as well as making a lasting impact on the University. Your gift adds value to your own degree, ensuring that UC maintains its reputation of excellence.
Will I be rewarded for my gift?
Many types of planned giving provide financial returns for the donor. To help you estimate your return on such an investment, use the Planned Giving Calculator. If you have questions about the calculator or about your giving options, please contact us.
