Three UC alumni join the 80-member board, and four officers receive appointments

CINCINNATI – November 5, 2014 – The University of Cincinnati Foundation Board of Trustees has elected three new trustees and appointed four officers. UC alumni John Berding, Bus ’85; Rae Mang, Pharm ’89; and Shenan Murphy, Bus ‘89, will join the 80-member board.

In addition to the new trustees, the board has appointed Robert Fealy, Bus ’73, to serve as chair; Rodney Grabowski, UC Foundation president, to serve as president; Lynnette M. Heard, Ed ‘75, director of foundation board relations at the UC Foundation, to serve as secretary; and Thomas Freeman, MBA '87, vice president and CFO at the UC Foundation, to serve as treasurer.

“I’m confident that our newest trustees will make a positive impact in the foundation’s efforts to encourage philanthropy at the university and help steward contributions in support of UC’s education, research and service goals,” Grabowski said.

All three of the new trustees attended UC and have backgrounds in business and health care and are well regarded in their respective fields.

Berding is president of American Money Management Corporation, the investment subsidiary of American Financial Group. In 1982 he began his career with American Financial Group as a co-op student at UC. He is currently a member of the Lindner College of Business Dean’s Advisory Council, American Financial Group’s Board of Directors, St. Ursula Academy’s Board of Trustees and the International Board of Advisors at the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum at Michigan State University. Together with his wife, Susan, he endowed the John and Susan Berding Family Scholarship in the UC’s Lindner Honors-PLUS Program.

Mang is a graduate of UC's Winkle College of Pharmacy, and has more than 20 years of experience in pharmaceutical and healthcare marketing. Her diverse background includes a six-year assignment in Japan and Korea, where she served as a marketing director for Procter & Gamble's health and feminine care businesses. Since retiring from P&G in 2010, Mang has become a licensed secondary education teacher in General Science and Health & Wellness. She is currently an adjunct professor within the department of Pharmaceutical Economics and Policy at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. She and her family have supported a Lindner College of Business Honors-PLUS scholarship for the past 10 years.

Murphy serves as the CEO and principal of Colliers International in Greater Cincinnati, a leading full-service commercial real estate firm with nearly 500 offices worldwide. In addition to his role with Colliers, he oversees a diversified group of companies including A2i Creative Building Solutions, a construction management firm; Prospera Solutions Group, an IT solutions company; and Shell Investments, a real estate investment company. Murphy volunteers as the Ohio director for the Western Golf Association, board member for UC UCATS Athletics and director of baseball for Walnut Hills High School. In 1999, he was named to the Cincinnati Business Courier’s list of Forty Under 40, and he is a member of the Young Presidents Organization.
