Two Alumni Living the Dream

Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine my career path would lead me back to the place where it all started. My classmates and I reluctantly left UC’s campus years ago, but I’ve had the good fortune to return. I was offered the opportunity to give back to UC in a truly unique way. That means traveling the country, meeting alumni near and far, and probably the most gratifying part of all, reconnecting them with their UC roots. I’ve met some pretty incredible people along the way, many of whom you’ll read about in this second edition of "UC Where You Are."

Allow me to introduce one of them: Cathy Carver of Florida. Her incredible imagination and drive have landed her at her own “dream” job with Disney. Read her full story to see how, one royal room at a time, she is making dreams come true for her and UC students, not to mention families around the globe.

‘Green Machine’: Alum Creates Cleaner Industry, Straighter Golf Ball

When you’re an engineer by trade and a golfer by passion, then you might just design and build a golf ball that flies only straight. That’s what alum Tim Owens did. The North Carolina native turned his innate spirit of innovation into a career as a world-traveled environmental engineer with an interesting sideline as a golf ball inventor, author and soon-to-be business owner.

There’s No Place like Home:
Cincinnati Meets DC and Atlanta

Every year, nearly 40% of Bearcats’ departures from UC’s campus land them abruptly outside Cincinnati, giving them a new appreciation for the saying “there’s no place like home.” But recent grads Caroline Page of Washington DC and Jeff Brawand of Atlanta took matters into their own hands. By turning two of their favorite Cincinnati pastimes into a familiar sense of home, they’ve built two thriving local Bearcat communities.

Annual Golf Outing ‘Plants UC Flag’
in Central Ohio

When five friends organized a Bearcat golf outing for Columbus-area alumni, they never imagined it becoming an inspirational model for other alumni communities. Four years later, the same founding group is gearing up for yet another “Bearcats on the Links” event on June 18. Besides having raised more than $30,000 for UC, the event has become a source of local UC pride and a much-anticipated Bearcat family reunion for alums across Central Ohio.

UC Architect Takes C-Paw on World Tour

UC students are taught that they can change the world if they want – but for DAAP alum Tony Elliott, he’s travelled it. His nearly 35-year career in design and architecture has taken him around the world, from Chicago, St. Louis and California to England, Libya and Dubai. But no matter where he travels, Tony manages to take a piece of his alma mater with him: his trusty Bearcats hat.
