UC Alum Broadcasts with NBC at Seventh Olympic Games
As an alum living thousands of miles away from UC in Eugene, OR, I am always looking for ways to connect with other alums. The city of Eugene hosted the 2012 Olympic Trials and I had a chance to catch up with Bearcat track fans and UC Olympic hopefuls. I watched UC alumni Mary Wineberg and David Payne compete for a spot on the 2012 Olympic team. While I’ve never had Olympic aspirations for myself, I’ve witnessed the pursuit of the Olympic dream firsthand as my own husband attempted to make the 2012 team and fell short of Olympic Trials by 3/100 of a second!
Even though no UC athletes competed in the 2012 London Olympic Games, one alum, Lewis Johnson, attended his seventh Olympic Games as a broadcaster for NBC. Johnson, a former UC track athlete and all-American, once aspired to become an Olympian. Now he’s fulfilling his dreams in a different way - as an Olympic broadcaster. |
