Jefferson Avenue Sports Complex Site Home to New Bearcat Statue

UC’s Honorary Sigma Sigma builds on its tradition of philanthropy with an iconic addition to UC’s transformative landscape.

CINCINNATI, December 6, 2010 – A 15-foot tall bronze Bearcat statue has been installed at the end of Champions Avenue between the Jefferson Avenue Sports Complex, Fifth Third Arena and the baseball field.

The statue, designed by nationally acclaimed artist Jon Hair, is a gift from members of UC’s honorary Sigma Sigma.  It was officially dedicated December 4, 2010 during UC's last regular season game.

The project was created in collaboration with UC, Sigma Sigma, the Senior Class of 2005 and UC’s Architect’s Office, including architects Len Thomas and Beth McGrew.

The statue’s installation will be complete by mid-November. A cohesive display including additional lighting, granite benches and landscaping will be added to the site in the coming weeks.

“The Bearcat symbolizes strength and courage and personifies the pride and fierce competitiveness of our athletes, faculty, students and alumni,” said Joff Moine, member of Sigma Sigma and UC Foundation Board of Trustees member. “This statue will be a constant reminder of those qualities and is yet another example of Sigma Sigma’s commitment to supporting UC’s transformation.”
