Cincinnati Culture and Exploration


Studying in an urban center has several advantages, one of which is access to the arts.  Whether you prefer the visual arts, theater, dance or music, you’ll always have something to entice you in Cincinnati.  Major arts organizations – as well as smaller venues – provide endless opportunities for you to explore art in all its forms.  Here’s a sampling:

  1. College-Conservatory of Music is the largest single source of performing arts events in the state of Ohio.  Many event tickets are offered free or at a reduced rate for UC students.
  2. Aronoff Center for the Arts is one location of the Cincinnati Arts Association and is located in the core of downtown Cincinnati.  The facility features three performance theaters which plays host to spectacular local and national theatrical, musical and dance performances as well as the Broadway Across America series.  Admission prices vary.
  3. Cincinnati Art Museum is located in Eden Park and has been enriching the city with a wide array of national and local art collections, exhibitions and programs for over 125 years. The museum offers free daily general admission Tuesday through Sunday.
  4. Cincinnati Ballet, under the artistic direction of Victoria Morgan, delights local and national audiences with a wide array of dance performances including the annual performance of The Nutcracker
  5. Cincinnati Opera Performs in the historic Music Hall located downtown and is second oldest opera company in the United States.  The Cincinnati Opera is under the artistic direction of Evans Mirageas who in 2006 was named one of the 25 most powerful names in U.S. Opera by Opera News
  6. Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, under the musical direction of Paavo Järvi is home to the fifth oldest symphony orchestra in the United States.  Special discounted student tickets are offered for $10 to select Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and Cincinnati Pops performances. In addition the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra offers occasion CollegeNite concerts where college students can mix and mingle.
  7. Contemporary Arts Center  is located in the Lois & Richard Rosenthal Center for Contemporary Art designed by world-class architect Zaha Hadid and is one of the oldest contemporary art museums in the United States. Special student admission prices are available with a studnet ID.
  8. May Festival Chorus  takes center stage in Cincinnati for two weekends each year and is  celebrated as the oldest continuous choral festival in the western hemisphere.
