Making Friends at UC

Coming to a large university such as UC is often intimidating.  You may be wondering how you will make friends in such a large environment.  The best way to meet people with common interests is to get involved!  Check out a few of the opportunities that await you here at UC.
 

Community Service

The Center for Community Engagement lets students know about community service and volunteer opportunities open on campus and in the Cincinnati area.

Student Government

The Freshman Internship Program which pairs a first-year student with a current member of student government is designed to get students involved right from the beginning! More information can be found on Student Government’s homepage.Student Government a great way students can get involved while advancing themselves professionally.

Campus Social Activities

Friday Night Live
Provides performances, trivia nights, and events galore on campus every Friday night during fall, winter, and spring quarters.

MainStreet 
Offers activities for every taste. Everything from billiards tournaments to lecture series can be found here.

Intramural Sports

There is an intramural sport for every level of athletic ability. From one-day tournaments, to season-long events the campus recreation center offers an array of sports from dodgeball tournaments to a flag football season.

Student Activities and Leadership Development

Student Activities and Leadership Development or SALD is an umbrella office that oversees all student activities on campus.  Some examples of activities available are:

• Camp Bearcat, an overnight leadership retreat especially for first-year students which allows for new students to network with other first-year students as well as make connections with upperclassmen and area business leaders. Contact Nicole Lepone for more information.
• Club Sports such as the nationally competitive Equestrian team or groups interested in recreational running
• Honorary organizations such as Alpha Lambda Delta, a first year honor society open to any studnet who maintains a 3.5 or higher GPA and is in the top 20% of their first-year of higher education
• Diversity education programming opportunities such as: Pop-Culture and Multiculturalism :Is change possible in this society?"
• Greek Life
