Gigi Meyer Escoe, Interim Director
Dr. Escoe is the Vice provost for Undergraduate Affiars at the Univeristy of Cincinnati. In this role, she is responsible for leading and coordinating all academic aspects of the undergraduate experience.
Wanda French, Program Manager
Wanda joined The Center for First Year Experience and Learning Communities in 2009. Wanda oversees the business functions of the Center and the development and maintenance of learning communities.
Wanda is a native of Cincinnati region attending The Cincinnati Public Schools system and is currently seeking a master degree from the University of Cincinnati’s MALER program.
Pat Runtz, Executive Staff Assistant
Pat has recently joined the staff of First Year Experience & Learning Communities in the Business Center. She brings with her extensive experience in human resources and business administration. Pat has performed a broad range of HR and financial responsibilities, having over 25 years of experience with the UC network. Pat is excited about her new position and looking forward to the challenges of working directly with the students.
Emily Bing Han, Engineering Graduate Assistant
Emily is a second year graduate student in the College of Engineering and Applied Science, majoring in Materials Science. She also works in Dr. Boerio's research group. Emily got her B.S. degree from Fudan University, Shanghai, China. This is her first year with the program. Emily believes learning communitues provide first-year students with a great start to their collegiate career. She is excited and willing to help Peer Leader Captains, Peer Leaders and freshmen with their work.
Jon Arthur, Peer Leader Captain
Jon Arthur is in his fourth year at UC in McMicken College of Arts and Sciences. He is studying molecular biology and pre-medicine. This upcoming year will be his third year with the First Year Experience program. He spent his first year in a learning community and last year as a peer leader for a science and pre-health Learning Community. Jon is very excited about the upcoming year and the opportunity to be a Peer Leader Captain. He looks forward to working with everyone associated with the program and all the incoming first year students! His main goal is to give back to a program and UC community that has given him so many opportunities! Go Bearcats!
Sarah Hulsman, Peer Leader Captain
Sarah is a third year student in the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services majoring in Sport Administration and minoring in business and marketing. This is Sarah's third year in the program. She was in a Learning Community her freshman year, her second year she was a Peer Leader, and now she will be spending her third year as a Peer Leader Captain. She is thankful for everything that the program has given her including new friendships, an enhanced skill set academically, and countless opportunities to get involved within the UC community. Sarah is looking forward to giving back to such an incredible program and working with the entire FYE staff.
Scott Patchell, Peer Leader Captain
Scott is a fourth year Health Sciences student pursuing a doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT). He was a part of a Learning Community his first year and has led two Learning Communities the past two years. Scott is grateful for the opportunity this year to impact the Center for First Year Experience as a Peer Leader Captain. He looks forward to working with staff and Peer Leaders to continue to allow first year students to have a fluent transition into college and be successful. The ultimate goal at UC is to build a strong community and to be a part of this process is a blessing!
Kaitlyn Tyler, Peer Leader Captain
Kaitlyn Tyler is a third year Early Childhood Education major in the College of Education, Criminal Justice and Human Services. After Kaitlyn's experience as being a part of a Learning Community during her freshman year, she knew that she wanted to help the Center for First Year Experience continue this legacy of excellence in promoting the success of freshman during their first year at UC. Kaitlyn was a Peer Leader during her sophomore year, and because of the great experience and many valuable lessons learned during this past year, she decided to apply for Peer Leader Captain for this upcoming school year. She cannot wait to again be a part of this very impactful program at the University of Cincinnati that has given her so many opportunities to grow as a leader, or to help others to do the same!
Eliza Wilder, Peer Leader Captain
Eliza is a third year chemistry major and French language minor. She was involved in a Learning Community during her freshman year and became a Peer Leader during her second year. She is now a Peer Leader Captain. Eliza’s involvement in her LC was one of the best choices she could have made when she came to UC. It helped her with the transition to the collegiate lifestyle, introduced her to many new students, and has given her countless opportunities she would not have gotten without the involvement in the Learning Communities program. Eliza is very excited to be working with the new and returning Peer Leaders, the entire staff at FYE, and the new Learning Community Students.
