Who is eligible?

  • First-generation (Definition: Neither parent has completed a Bachelor’s degree within 6 years of high school graduation)
  • Pell-eligible (determined based on financial need)
  • Admitted to UC and seeking a Bachelor’s degree- UC Blue Ash students must be willing to transfer and complete a Bachelor degree

*YOU MUST BE ACCEPTED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI, TO BE ACCEPTED TO THE GEN-1 PROGRAM*

How to apply to Gen-1?

Gen-1 Application includes:

  1. Completed UC and Gen-1 applications
  2. Letters of reference from two sources (as identified on application)
  3. Completed FAFSA (attach the first page of the Student Aid Report to this application)
  4. Complete a personal essay (maximum of 500 words) using ONE of the following prompts:

a) Think of a quote by a cultural or historical figure who is important to you.  In your essay, reference the quote and explain why it inspires or motivates you.  Also share how you anticipate that being a member of the Gen-1 program will inspire and motivate you in college.

b) Reflect on a time when you faced a difficult challenge (academic, social or personal) that you didn’t believe you could overcome.  How did you face that challenge?  What lessons did you learn that will help you as a college student?  How will being a member of the Gen-1 program help you face similar challenges in college?

ALL APPLICATION MATERIALS MUST BE SUBMITTED ONLINE BY MARCH 1st, 2017 IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR PARTICIPATION.  NO APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER
