Revising GenEd


Overview

In the spirit of continuous program improvement, and in support of evolving university priorities, there are two notable revisions to the General Education program under review.

Firstly: to create new student learning outcomes in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Each degree program must describe how their curriculum meets these outcomes, either through an “across the curriculum approach” or with the use of BoK contemporary topics courses. To support achievement of these learning outcomes, this revision plans to include the creation of two new Breadth of Knowledge contemporary topics areas. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and Society, Culture, and Ethics (SCE). These would replace Diversity and Culture (DC), and Social, and Ethical Issues (SE).

Secondly: to create new student learning outcomes in Career Education. To support achievement of these learning outcomes, academic programs will address them at the three General Education touchpoints: First Year Experience, Mid-Collegiate Experience, and Senior Capstone. A Career Education course attribute will be added to our course attributes so track where career education content is offered throughout the curriculum.

The document was endorsed by the General Education Coordinating Committee by electronic survey in Spring 2017.

► Breadth of Knowledge Definitions

This document provides the full text of each Breadth of Knowledge contemporary topic’s definition. It includes the two proposed additions: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and Society, Culture, and Ethics (SCE) replacing the previous DC and SE codes.

These two new definitions were endorsed by the General Education Coordinating Committee at its meeting on March 28th, 2017.

This document provides learning objectives related to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Each learning outcome has been articulated to a Baccalaureate Competency.

The learning objectives were endorsed by the General Education Coordinating Committee via electronic survey during Fall, 2016.
