General Education

The General Education Program proposes a common set of requirements to be shared by all baccalaureate programs at the University of Cincinnati.  These requirements expose students to the main areas of traditional knowledge as well as to current issues, and are designed to develop critical thinking, oral, and written skills.  Questions about the General Education Program can be directed to the program office at 556-4749 or gened@uc.edu, or via the Gen Ed Web site.

The General Education Program includes three sets of specific requirements:
  1. freshman year English and mathematics courses

2. a series of distribution requirements in the sciences, humanities, and social sciences, and

3. a capstone experience.
Many of these requirements will be fulfilled by the same courses that satisfy college requirements.

Grade Point Average

Graduation requires that you maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 for all courses you take.  You must also be in good academic and disciplinary standing at the conclusion of your final term of study.  Further, academic residency requires that you complete a significant portion of your course work in A&S and that you end your study enrolled in A&S.  Specifically, you are required to earn a minimum of 18 quarter credits in your major and a minimum of 45 additional quarter credits in other A&S courses.  If you intend to pursue graduate studies, you should normally expect to achieve a minimum grade point average of 3.0.
