The University of Cincinnati Department of Family Medicine works in conjunction with a private, non-profit organization, Shoulder to Shoulder, to perform three medical/dental brigades to Honduras every year.Working with local community leaders and the Honduran government, this organization has helped provided educational, nutritional and medical programs for poor, rural communities in Honduras.
The rotation in Santa Lucia provided through the University of Cincinnati is a 4 week program. This qualifies as a full clinical rotation at the College of Pharmacy and the student will be awarded credit for 6 course hours upon successful completion of the requirements.This course exposes the participant to the culture, history, healthcare system, and challenges of working in a rural Honduran community. It also helps the participant discover how to empower and assist patients who are underserved, regardless of geographic location.
