Greek Life

Greek Life

Eligibility

A member of Fraternity and Sorority Life must be a full-time student at the University of Cincinnati. Students at satellite campuses (Blue Ash, Clermont) can join. There is not “deferred” recruitment—that is, students can join a fraternity or sorority the fall quarter of their freshman year. Typically, NPHC fraternities and sororities require new members to be at least sophomore status. Upper-class men and women are highly encouraged to Go Greek!

Students must have a minimum 2.3 cumulative GPA. This academic standard applies to all students wishing to participate in any university student organization. Sorority recruitment requires a 2.5 cumulative GPA. Each fraternity or sorority may have a higher GPA requirement, but a 2.3 is the absolute minimum.

If students have previously been a member of a “social” fraternity or sorority, it is highly unlikely they will be able to join another fraternity or sorority of Fraternity and Sorority Life. But there are sometimes exceptions, and they can still join professional, service, or honorary Greek-letter societies.

To join a fraternity or sorority:

  • University of Cincinnati full-time student
  • 2.3 cumulative GPA (at least a 2.75 high school GPA is recommended for first-quarter freshmen)
  • Not a member, or previously a member, of another "social" fraternity or sorority. Members of professional, service, and honorary Greek-letter societies can join a social fraternity/sorority
