Buying your friends? No way. The cost of 4 year membership in a fraternity or sorority house is competitive, if not cheaper, than simply living in the residence halls. Last year, over $100,000 in merit- and need-based scholarships was awarded by our fraternities and sororities to their members. Nearly all provide dues discounts for members that take leadership positions, get good grades, or do community service and philanthropy.
Quarterly dues (not including housing) range from $25 – $600, depending on the fraternity or sorority. And this money is used for fun and educational stuff, like socials, wellness activities, sporting events, formals and dances, conferences, personal and professional development opportunities, and more. Costs also cover risk management and insurance fees, and dues to the affiliated national fraternity/sorority, similar to any other club or student organization.
Fraternities and sororities offer a variety of room occupancy arrangements. Many have single, double, and triple or more beds per room. Some require members or officers to live in, some do not. The particular finances and housing of each fraternity and sorority are explained during recruitment.
