joia mukherjeeTrained in Infectious Disease, Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, Dr. Mukherjee has approached the issues of health care access and health disparities in the United States, Africa, Latin America and elsewhere from many perspectives. As the medical director of Partners in Health, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing health care to the poor, Dr. Mukherjee established the HIV Equity Initiative, a program dedicated to providing HAART to patients in Haiti and Rwanda. Since then, the program has served as a model for similar World Health Organization projects, and Dr. Mukherjee has served as a consult to the WHO on HIV and Multidrug Resistant Tuberculosis. She is on faculty at Harvard Medical School, teaching Social Medicine and Infectious Disease. Currently, Dr. Mukherjee also is the Director of the Institute of Health and Social Justice, the Advocacy arm of Partners In Health.
