About Beta Alpha Psi

Who We Are

From BAP.org,"Beta Alpha Psi is an honorary organization for financial information students and professionals. The primary objective of Beta Alpha Psi is to encourage and give recognition to scholastic and professional excellence in the business information field. This includes promoting the study and practice of accounting, finance and information systems, providing opportunities for self-development, service and association among members and practicing professionals, and encouraging a sense of ethical, social, and public responsibility.

"Beta Alpha Psi was founded in 1919. By 2011, there will be 289 chapters on college and university campuses with over 300,000 members initiated since Beta Alpha Psi's formation."

The Alpha Sigma Chapter at the University of Cincinnati seeks to develop students in to business professionals by giving its members frequent opportunities to interact with many different firms, give back to the community, and develop the habits of a modern professional.

Our chapter also functions as a liasion between accounting & finance firms, CoB faculty, and CoB students in order to foster the relationships among each.

We maintain relationships with firms such as Deloitte, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Ernst & Young, Grant Thornton, BKD, Western & Southern, Northwestern Mutual, Barnes Dennig, Clark Schafer Hackett & Co., Kroger, P&G, Fifth Third Bank, SS&G Financial, Decosimo, Mellot & Mellot, Cassady Schiller & Associates, and many others.

What We Do

We meet weekly, generally on Thursdays at 6:30pm throughout the school year. During our meetings, we network with local firms and further our understanding of the accounting and/or finance professions. We either meet with the firm at their office or host them at the College of Business. Our meetings are a great time for members to network with recruiters, entry-level employees, and partners of local accounting/finance firms. Dress for the meetings is business casual, unless stated otherwise. For more information on where we will be meeting, please check our calendar for meeting times and locations.

In the fall, we host two highly popular recruiting events: Meet the Firms Night and Meet the Industry Night. These events bring local recruiters to the students so they have an opportunity to speak with firms that are hiring and it's also a chance to get to know more about what these firms do.

We also host social events and charitable events such as Accounting for Kids Day and Cincinnati's Adopt-A-Spot program.

Dues Policy (Effective 2010-2011)

Because we are an honorary fraternity and are selective in our membership, we receive no funding from the University Funding Board. In order to pay our dues to the fraternity Executive Office, and to pay for quarterly events and banquets, we require members and pledges to pay quarterly dues.

The policy regarding membership dues is as follows:

For current members, dues are $150 for the full year, payable during the 5th week of the fall quarter. If you are a pledge, your initiation fee is $55 plus a prorated dues rate of $50 per quarter depending on the quarter when you join: if in the fall, your total dues for the year are $205 ($150 dues + $55 initiation fee), if in winter, $155, and spring, $105.

Dues can be paid by 1) cash, 2) a check made payable to "Beta Alpha Psi", or 3) via the PayPal button on the homepage of this website (preferred).

Weekly Meetings

Unless otherwise indicated, meetings are on Thursdays at 6:30. If we are meeting with a firm at their office, we typically meet at the alumni parking lot directly across the street from the College of Business at 5:30pm and leave at 5:45pm. We offer rides to and from the event to anyone who needs or wants one. Driving directions will be provided if we are meeting off-campus. If we are meeting with a firm on campus, we will meet at the normal time in the room indicated. All details regarding weekly meetings will be sent out via email to members and pledges.

Attendance at these meetings is assumed to be required unless stated otherwise. We require that all members and pledges attend at least 3/4 of our events in order to remain a member in good standing. If, however, you are on a co-op quarter, work a part-time job, or have a night class on Thursday nights, excused absence can be granted by the officers if they are notified before the start of the quarter.
