Concert: June 10 at 8pm
REMINDER
  • Dress Rehearsal: Tuesday, June 9 from 8-10pm
  • Concert: Wednesday, June 10 at 8pm

The goal of this concert is to offer our audience the chance to hear some of America's most important and beloved music that has shaped our culture and has had an emotional impact on generations of people. Furthermore, we will set this American tradition in the historical context of centuries of popular song, from Mozart forward, and we will rehearse all of this repertoire with the same exactitude and finesse that we bring to everything that we do. While the Great American Songbook may not become the core repertoire of the UC Symphony, it will provide us with a new set of ideas and perspectives that will expand the range of our expressive possibilities.

NOTE: Our concert is during finals week, and it is the required final exam for this class. Our music director can negotiate with instructors of other classes to have conflicting exam times changed on a case by case basis. Please let him know ASAP.

  • REHEARSAL POLICIES
Attendance is the main contributor to a student's final grade in the undergraduate UCSO class. All students taking the class (whether for one (1) or zero (0) credit hours) will receive a marking on their transcript. If you register for 1 credit hour, the UCSO class will count towards your UC's General Education Breadth of Knowledge requirements under the area of "Fine Arts."

UC Symphony Orchestra Each person is allowed one unexcused absence. Please note that an excused absence is one that is "university approved." Absences are excused for (1) a death in the family, (2) life threatening illness, (3) official CCM business that has been approved by the Associate Dean. Two tardies will be understood as an equivalent to one unexcused absence. Successive unexcused absences will lower the student's grade by one letter per absence.

The concert at the end of the quarter is the final exam for this course. Since this performance will be the culmination of all our work in rehearsal, it bears the same effect on your grade as would a conventional exam. If you miss the concert, you fail the class.

It is every player's responsibility to sign in on the roster before the start of each class. Attendance will be recorded accordingly. It is expected that students are ready and prepared to begin rehearsals promptly at 8pm. This means you must be seated with your instrument out and ready to play when the first down beat is given at 8.

Contact Jessica Eddy regarding any attendance issues.
