Chapter History:

Gamma Beta Chapter
University of Cincinnati
Cincinnati, Ohio
Chartered as Phi Kappa Tau, November 9, 1959

The University of Cincinnati invited Phi Kappa Tau to establish a chapter there in 1956, and an initial nine men joined the colony on November 13, 1956. In December 1958, the national fraternity purchased a house for the colony at 2645 Clifton Avenue across from the university, which was remodeled by colony members in time for the fall rush in 1959.

John C. Hardebeck served the first two years as colony president and was treasurer of the senior class. Harry Addison was vice president of the Interfraternity Council.

After three years of work, the colony received the Gamma Beta charter on November 9, 1959, in the Union’s faculty dining room. Several university officials welcomed the new chapter, and board of governors chairman Joseph K. Dunker, Miami '48, described the colony’s progress toward chartering. National Secretary Young presented the charter to Gamma Beta president Jack Maisel. National President Maxwell’s address concluded the ceremonies, which were followed by a reception at the chapter house.
