University of Cincinnati Cricket Club Match Report.
Midwest Match 2 against Nationwide2 Cricket Club.UCCC wins by 74 runs! Scorecard
"Actions speak louder than words!!" was the motto of UC. Determined to put the past behind, UCCC drove to Columbus to face Nationwide2 Cricket Club (NW2CC). A tough opponent with an undefeated record on their home ground.
UCCC won the toss and elected to bat. Bijoy and Vignesh opened the innings. Run rate was maintained with some clean hits by the openers and constant supply of 'wides' by NW2CC. Unfortunately, Vignesh got out in the 2nd over to a good catch at gully.
Vijay and Bijoy continued to take good singles and kept the run flow. Bijoy got out in the 9th over. Madhu stepped in and steadied the inninngs along with Vijay. With some good running between the wickets, UCCC was able to frustrate NW2CC and kept the runrate at 4 runs per over. At the end of 15 overs, UCCC was crusing along at 59/2.
After the break, Madhu and Vijay stepped up the gears and increased the run flow. Some good hits by both Madhu and Vijay, along with good running between the wickets helped UCCC reach 106/2 in 20 overs. The run flow continued as both Madhu and Vijay started stroking the ball well. Madhu was caught at long-on. UCCC was, at that point, 120/3.
RahulM stepped in and started stroking the ball around, right from the first ball. Vijay continued to score steadily on the other end. Vijay got out in the 26th over through a catch in the deep-square-leg. UCCC was at 148/4. RahulM, Ramki and especially Ram got some excellent boundaries in the death and helped UCCC post a defendable total of 180/7 in 30 overs.
The day was getting hotter and so was UCCC. VijayW and Chandan started attacking NW2CC batsmen. VijayW got UCCC's first breakthrough in the 1st over of the innings with a good catch by Bijoy at gully and in the 3rd over with a catch by Chandan. NW2CC, desperately trying to maintain its unbeaten record, refused quite a few fairly obvious wickets (1 caught-behind, 1 caught-in-gully, 2 LBWs and 2 Run Outs).
There were heated arguments going on between the teams. With some heavy sledging and attacking bowling, UCCC was able to fight back. Chandan came back after some wayward bowling to get the 3rd wicket by beating the batsman all ends out and getting him bowled. Ramki took over on the other end with accurate bowling and beat the batsmen often.
After 9 overs NW2CC was at 44/3. Nagi and Ram took over the attack and provided some fantastic deliveries and quick wickets. With the help of some energetic fielding by UCCC, Nagi took his first wicket in the 13th over through a catch at long-on by chandan.
Ram came riding along with a devastating yorker to uproot the middle stump, and continued celebrating with his 'horse riding' dance long after the wicket was taken. Nagi got another wicket with a good catch in the covers. Nagi, again, got the breakthough with a stumping by VijayS. NW2CC was struggling at 81/8 in 18 overs.
NW2CC's batting was in shambles by the 20th over. They were at 89/8, with Ram getting a caught behind wicket. VijayW, RahulP and Vignesh were brought into the attack to finish off NW2CC for 106 in 22.5 overs, securing UCCC's first victory and delivering a huge defeat to NW2CC.
