Practice Match 3 against Ohio State University Cricket Club.
OSU wins by 11 runs!
UCCC set out from Cincinnati to play Ohio State University
(Alumni) Cricket Club (OSUCC) in the Titan Cup 2003. The day stayed true
to the forecast and was rainy. The toss was vital as both team wanted
to exploit the moisture on and off the pitch. OSUCC won the toss and elected
to bat.
UCCC players took the field. With previous losses still lingering in their minds, they wanted
to set the record straight by posting a win this time. VijayW and Chandan started the
proceedings as usual. Both of them kept a tight line and were posing all kinds of problems
with their pace and swing. Chandan and Ram combined to bring UCCC's first breakthrough.
Chandan bowled a quick one, just short of length, and induced the batsman to drive it up
in the air towards Ram who held it gleefully.
On the other end, Shuchi Khurana held it firm for OSUCC and had their scoreboard ticking
with deftly placed singles and the occasional boundaries. UCCC lost it's focus somewhere
in the middle overs as a couple of catches were dropped. In the end, OSUCC had posted 132
in 20 overs.
Since OSUCC had already won their first game, it was a do or die situation for UCCC.
Having their reliable opener Vignesh injured, UCCC had to open with Arun and Bijoy.
The pair negotiated OSUCC's opening bowlers with consummate ease and UCCC was well on
path with 49/0 in 10 overs. Arun fell to a beauty from Joshi which kicked off the deck
with alarming speed and he ended up fending it to second slip. UCCC, at that time,
was 89/1 in 14 overs.
Skipper VijayS took over from Arun and started stroking the ball nicely.
Wickets fell at regular intervals and inspite of a late assault from Santosh,
Ram and Madhu, UCCC fell short of the required target by 11 runs.
