UC Cricket wins the Club Sport of Year Award
"It is our great pleasure to announce that the University of Cincinnati Cricket Club has won the 2011-2012 Club Sport of the Year Award amongst 35 Clubs in a glittering ceremony on May 3rd at the Great Hall, TUC. Apart from the monetary benefits that we receive as a result of this, it is also a recognition for all the efforts that we, in the past years, have put forth in building this club. This is a victory for all the team member who have considered cricket as a part of their lives, and contributed to the team's success. This is a victory for all of us who stayed together in the team during the hard times, and celebrated together during the joyous ones.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Nabil Hamadani, whose undeterred devotion to the club as a leader, student, alumni, has played a vital role in our success. We would also like to thank Abir Sengupta, Aniruddha, Farah, Pande, Niranjan, and other alumni who have continuously supported us. Having said all this, we must also acknowledge that the good work does not stop here. It is our responsibility to carry this forward, and make sure that we prove ourselves worthy for such recognitions in the coming years as well. Special thanks to Anish Dantale, who helps to maintain our website, and does not even charge us money ;)
Comfortable win for UC against West Chester
West Chester chose to bat first in this second twenty-20 game for UC Cricket Club this season. West Chester started their batting innings in a cracking fashion with a flurry of boundaries and big hits over the line. Even the trees at the Stubbs cricket ground were going for cover. A drop catch by Abhi at third man in the first five overs did not help the team until he came on to bowl and wrap things around with fine slow leg spins. This saw regular wickets fall down at one end but they still managed to put on a decent total of 140 in 20 overs.
Chasing 140 for UC has always been a familiar task and was one of the same when the score was reached in 12.4 overs. The opening batsmen Nabil and Srivathsan spoiled the party for the West Chester bowlers as they smashed them all over the field with classy shots and fine running between the wickets. In the end it was all too simple for UC as they chased the score down only losing 3 wickets.
