Graduate Students' Comments about Internship Experiences
“My internship in employee health was challenging and multi-faceted. There was a wide range of opportunities to apply my HPE coursework. The variety of responsibilities included assisting with an employee health and safety fair, lunch and learns, staff meeting presentations, and registration of employees for an internet-based walking program.” (Denise Britigan, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center )
- “I was able to see some procedures and tests like angiograms and chemically induces stress tests. It was incredible to see these happening in front of me instead of just reading about them in a textbook. I had great hands-on experience with the phase II and phase III patients writing exercise prescriptions and evaluating the process. I had a wonderful staff to work with and had a great time.” (Jessica Sirucek, St. Luke's Cardiac Rehab)
- “In reviewing my Red Cross experience, I learned the most from attending various meetings…I enjoyed the coalition meetings greatly because I could find out what was being done in the Greater Cincinnati area to improve the health of others and [how] to make additional contacts.” (Anna Ehlerding, Red Cross)
- “My internship was a great experience. I was given a lot of responsibility and autonomy to do several aspects of health education such as worksite fitness testing, social marketing research, and tobacco policy research” (Rebecca Dietrich, Northern Kentucky Independent District Health Department)
- “My internship involved a lot of hard work which reaped a lot of rewards. The skills I gained will carry me far and my experience really helped me clarify what I want to do with health education.” (Rebecca Lehman, Planned Parenthood of Southwest Ohio )
- “My internship was an interesting experience where I could interact with a lot of student athletes, assess their fitness levels and do physical evaluations. I worked on projects such as influenza vaccinations, STD's and pregnancy.” (Samrat Yeramaneni, University Health Services)
- “My internship with the Ohio Resource Network was excellent. I had opportunities to implement the knowledge that I have gained over the past year and was able to be a contributing force within the organization. This internship provided a capstone to my educational experiences in Health Promotion and Education.” (Arianne Davis , Ohio Resource Network)
