- Request photo from UC Photo Services staff. Be sure to let them know it's for a SLP image (uses a special PhotoShop template and is 362x196 pixels).
- Photo staff will check for existing photos. If none exists, determine if photo shoot should be scheduled.
- Photographer crops/prepares images and places finished images in appropriate folder on Hal.
- If you are preparing the image yourself, be sure to locate the original image before cropping to size. You will need to use the PhotoShop SLP Image Template, provided by UC Photo Services staff. Use the "Save for Web" feature in PhotoShop for a smaller file size.
- Determine URL to which SLP image caption will link.
- Determine image caption.
- Determine on which pages the item should appear.
- Determine start/stop dates for each SLP and each page on which it will appear. Use SLP reports to make determination.
- SLPs rotate based on start/stop dates:
- If multiple images are listed to appear in same timeframe for same page, then they will rotate on refresh.
- If only one photo is listed to appear for timeframe for same page, then only one will appear for that page (no rotation).
- A Default SLP image should be chosen and given an extended (calendar year) period to display. Be sure neither the image nor the link is time-sensitive. Any approver can add a default image.

- Click Submit.
- A preview of your image and caption will appear.

Process for Choosing/Cropping Photos
- Request photo from Photo Services staff. Be sure to let them know if it’s a SLP image, a DYK for SLP (135x135 pixels), DYK for main page (135x70 pixels), or a combination of these.
- Photo staff to check for existing photos.
- If none, determine if photo shoot should be scheduled.
- Photographer crops/prepares images and places finished images in appropriate folder on Hal (see below).
Folders for SLP images and DYK are located on HAL (University Communications internal server) as follows. If you don’t have access to the HAL server, please request that images be sent to you.

Access to DYK and SLP Images Administrative Area:
- All admin users have either “Approval” or “Unapproval” access. If you have “Unapproval” access, then your entries will be approved by an approver. See “Access for Users” chart to determine your access level and approvers.
- If you have approvers, they will be the same ones for any admin function for which you have access (DYK, SLP images and news releases).
- Ability to place a SLP Image, DYK or Profile on a particular SLP will be controlled via the CMS. If person has permission to edit a particular CMS page, he/she will have permission to add DYK or Profile placeholders to the same page.
