A GLANCE

The Health and Environmental Risk Institute provides high quality risk assessment research and consultation services at the national level with a particular emphasis on issues affecting the citizens, industry, and government of the State of Ohio. These risk assessment services focus on chemical, radiological, and physical contaminants and include consulting services, risk assessment, health effects research and consultation, and the communication of these health effects to the general public. HERI applied research and service activities involve the interplay of technical and social science disciplines concerning the study of risk and include designing and implementing holistic approaches to assessing and communicating those risks.

The Health and Environmental Risk Institute is a collaborative effort between the Engineering, Law, Arts & Sciences, Environmental Health and DAAP colleges at the University of Cincinnati. The Institute seeks to further public understanding of human health risk associated with environmental contamination through effective, participatory risk communication.
