University Honors Program

Pre-Approved Experiential Learning Projects

The UHP has compiled a short list of pre-approved honors experiential learning projects (see table below). A pre-approved honors experiential learning project is one in which you are not required to submit a proposal in order to earn an honors experience. These programs are the exception to the proposal rule (proposals must be submitted for all other honors experiential learning projects). These programs have been fully vetted by the UHP to ensure that participation fulfills the requirements of an honors experience.

Pre-approved pograms listed below will count as honors experiences if completed as directed (by the contact listed) and documented in the student's learning portfolio. Individual programs may have specific requirements for University Honors students who are participating, in order for the program count as an honors experience (beyond the programs regular requirements). Additional direction may be given by the UC contact person.

All experiences must be documented in your learning portfolio in order for it to count as an honors experience. While some of these programs notify the UHP when students are participating, in the end it is the individual student's responsibility to make sure their honors advisor is aware that they is participating in the experience and to notify the honors advisor when the experience is completed.

Please note that some of the programs listed below have competitive application processes and/or specific deadlines. For more information about a particular program/project, please visit the website or contact the individual listed below.

If you don't see a project listed that fits your interests, design your own project. In fact, most honors experiential learning projects are self-designed. There are countless ways to pursue such projects!

Students can explore participation in programs below or develop their own honors experiential learning project.

*Students who entered the University Honors Program in or prior to summer quarter 2007 are required to earn honors credit hours. Projects worth one experience in this chart are equivalent to three hours of honors credit. Projects worth 2 experiences are equivalent to 6 hours of honors credit.

*Please keep in mind that honors hours or experiences earned through experiential learning projects will only count towards students’ University Honors Program requirements. These hours or experiences will NOT apply towards progress on degree programs, majors, minors, general education requirements, or other non-honors academic programs. Honors hours or experiences earned will not appear on student's academic transcripts.
