Leadership experience plays an important role for students in University Honors. This page is dedicated to providing incoming and current stunts insight into leadership opportunities and leadership theory. So many times a leader is described as being the president of an organization or having the most groups on his or her resume. However, we believe that any student can become a leader within their group, campus, and community regardless of their title or age. The following links and opportunities are here to provide students with the resources to find the right theory, book, or article to help define what "leadership" means to them.

For incoming students this provides insight into what the program has to offer and examples of opportunities. For current students this is a place to explore new theories, readings, and other information as you design and reflect on leadership experiences on campus.

When considering a leadership experience or reflecting on one that has already taken place, student projects should result in substantial learning through which progress is made towards meeting one or more of the following leadership learning objectives:

• Possesses knowledge of various leadership theories and identifies with the characteristics of leadership
• Identifies the various characteristics of a leader in a given situation/role
• Has the ability to relate, communicate and work effectively with peers
• Develops a vision of the future and acknowledges the impact of decisions (as applicable to the individual and affiliated organizations

As students think about the learning objectives for a potential leadership experience, we encourage them begin researching theories that will support and assist them in completing their experience. Studnets should think about what leadership theory or theories fit best with the learning objectives. Once a theory or theories are selected, students explain how they intend to use the theory to assist in meeting their learning objectives.
