Honors Seminar & Study Tour Course

We expect this course to be offered in autumn quarter 2010. Additional information will be posted below.
Global development of technologies of structures and architecture through the centuries is associated with societal culture, needs, progress and, yes, war. This honors seminar uses problem based learning pedagogy to expose University Honors students to these interrelationships, and helps them to better understand societies.
In this course, teams of honors students will research the technology of construction and architecture of Egyptian monuments and reflect on the culture that promoted their construction. Students will work in groups to research problems on the intertwining relationships of Egyptian construction, architecture, and culture. Classes encompass seminars, followed by short discussion and group collaboration to work on the problems.
Travel Component Students will be required to travel to Egypt at the end of the course to experience what they have learned in the seminar and through their research. Travel dates are to be determined.
Cost Expected cost is $2600* per student. Meals are not included in this cost. This cost is tentative and subject to change.
*University Honors will provide each University Honors participant with a travel grant to offset this cost. Students must be in good standing with University Honors to receive the grant. This travel grant will be posted to students University accounts for during the quarter in which travel will take place. Travel grant amount will be determined closer to the offering of the course.
Participants should also apply for globalization grants through UC International. Go to: http://www.uc.edu/global/grants_aid/UC_International_Programs_Student_Grants.html
